Carole Ann Alloway has been a member for the past 18 months on the Patient and Caregiver Advisory Table for the MOHLTC Patients First initiative. There are a lot of good things happening as a result of calling together this group of people and making recommendations on how to improve our health care system for patients and caregivers. Here are a few highlights:
- in March the Ministry called for applications for a caregiver training and education program
- the Ministry has requested Janet Beed to determine how to coordinate caregiver supports (Carole Ann’s in the focus group)
- CCACs (Community Care Access Centres) have $20M to spend on caregiver respite and this amount will continue into next year – we are recommending it be increased and self-directed
- developed a statement of values (Carole Ann was on that team as well) –“Patient-centred home care that is responsive, collaborative, transparent and flexible”
There are more things we are working on so watch this space for future updates!
